A modern reinterpretation of historical surveys allows the temporal range of study to be extended, providing new insights into the mud volcano’s dynamics. The surveys by Renato Biasutti (1906‑1907) document the site’s morphology, the arrangement of vents, and the characteristics of the mud, offering a valuable reference for comparison with the current situation.\r\nRecent campaigns, carried out between 2023 and 2025 within the PROMUD (PROtocol for MUD volcanoes) project, produced detailed data on the affected surface using UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) photogrammetric surveys, generating precise orthophotos and maps. The integration of historical and modern data allowed common features to be identified and information to be aligned, comparing the surface distribution of 1906‑1907 with the present-day configuration.\r\nCross-referencing these data with geophysical measurements, obtained from both passive and active seismic surveys, enabled the formulation of a hypothesis on the evolution of the Salsa del Dragone, interpreted as a process of retreating terrain around the mud volcano, thus confirming hypotheses already suggested by Biasutti in 1907. L’integrazione dei dati storici con quelli moderni ha permesso di individuare elementi comuni e di allineare le informazioni, confrontando la distribuzione superficiale del 1906‑1907 con quella attuale.\r\nL’incrocio con dati geofisici, ottenuti da misure sismiche passive e attive, ha consentito di formulare un’ipotesi sull’evoluzione della Salsa del Dragone, interpretata come un fenomeno di retrocessione del terreno circostante, confermando le ipotesi già avanzate da Biasutti nel 1907. Thanks to the use of background services based on IHostedService, the system ensures continuous monitoring of critical parameters such as battery voltage and connectivity stability, and automatically triggers immediate notifications in the event of any detected anomalies.\r\nThe unified interface, enhanced by an interactive geospatial dashboard and signal history analysis modules, provides users with an immediate and highly informative overview. distributed between Lazio, Umbria and Abruzzo regions, was realized in 2018 in order to lay the basics for a multidisciplinary approach to natural risk assessment in the area of Central Italy, affected by the 2009 and 2016 seismic activity. Up to now, two absolute gravity campaigns were carried out using the transportable Microg LaCoste FG5#238 and the portable A10#39 absolute gravimeters. The locations of gravimetric sites have been chosen indoor to allow optimal condition of measure; therefore, the heights of the indoor sites have been determined by joining the outdoor GNSS with classical topographic surveys. The good results obtained after the campaigns and data processing lay the foundations for a new multidisciplinary approach to study also seismogenetic areas. In this paper, we present the gravity and GNSS station monographs, together with the absolute gravity values and the coordinates resulting from the first field Italy. Broadband stations deployed in Northern Italy and Sardinia to contribute to the broader AdriaArray Seimic Network. The first set of stations provided by the University of Twente was installed in the Po Plain and surrounding\r\nareas starting in December 2022. The second set, provided by Geophysical Instrument Pool Potsdam (GIPP), was deployed in Sardinia beginning in September 2023.\r\nThe collected data is available through the INGV EIDA (European Integrated Data Archive) node and has been fully open from the beginning of stations operations, according to the general open data policy of INGV (https://data.ingv.it/docs/principles/), in line with international recommendations (e.g. EPOS‑European Plate Observing System, Freda et al., 2018).\r\n\r\nAdriaArray (https://orfeus.readthedocs.io/en/latest/adria_array_main.html) is a multi-national initiative to cover the Adriatic Plate and its active margins in the central Mediterranean by a dense regional array of seismic stations to understand the causes of active tectonics and volcanic fields in the region. Plate-scale observations are complemented by local and LargeN experiments in key areas. The AdriaArray region reaches from the Massive Central in the west to the Carpathians in the east, from the Alps in the north to the Calabrian Arc and mainland Greece in the south. The deployment of seismic stations and scientific research is coordinated by the AdriaArray Seismology Group based on FAIR and open data exchange. Analyses of seismicity and multi-scale passive seismic imaging will lay the ground for a physical understanding and modelling of plate deformation and associated geohazards. \r\n\r\nAt the core of the AdriaArray initiative is the acquisition of broadband seismic data from a dense network of stations. This includes temporary deployments to improve the coverage and geometry of existing permanent broadband networks operated by various seismic services across Europe. A digital artist's book that can be browsed and an art catalog in e-book format capable of exploring the relationship between art, literature, and science.\r\nAs an \"artist's book,\" art to be read in digital format uses text and images as an overall work of art and a narrative tool.\r\nThis unique exhibition, dedicated to the life and work of Marcello Carapezza, unfolds through his writings and the works of his Sicilian friends, famous artists and intellectuals such as Renato Guttuso, Leonardo Sciascia, and Andrea Camilleri.\r\nA unique opportunity to discover or rediscover priceless masterpieces, such as the splendid paintings of Renato Guttuso, a leading figure of Italian Neorealist painting who expressed himself alongside the artists of the Fronte Nuovo delle Arti (New Arts Front), or some of the writings of Leonardo Sciascia, one of the greatest literary figures of twentieth-century Italy and Europe; and, finally, the memories of Andrea Camilleri, a youthful friend of Marcello Carapezza and a multifaceted artist, best known for his novels about \"Il Commissario Montalbano\" (\"Inspector Montalbano\").\r\nWith this work, we aim to immerse the reader, combining the visual and textual dimensions, in the world of an extraordinary intelligentsia that distinguished Palermo in the early 1900s, before extending its talent throughout the rest of Italy and even international borders.\r\nIn addition to his work as a scientist, Marcello Carapezza dedicated much of his life to writing articles on social sciences, aimed at a broader and more general audience, for the newspapers Il Giornale di Sicilia and L’Ora. Some of these articles were collected in a beautiful publication published by Editor Sellerio, entitled “Many Fires Burn Beneath the Ground, from Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Statues.” This precious little volume served as our starting point for this tribute to one of Italy's most iconic scholars in the field of Earth sciences, but also a great humanist and scientist, capable of approaching any discipline with skill and a keen critical eye. It also includes the guides for the school’s field trips.\r\nThe overall objectives of the GeoINQUIRE project are: i) to consolidate and enhance access to multidisciplinary and interoperable datasets; ii) to improve access to new and innovative observables and products; iii) to open new research opportunities to enhance the understanding of the interface between the solid earth and its fluid envelope; iv) to support crossdisciplinary and integrated studies of extreme geohazards; v) to gamechange research possibilities in georesource management by providing innovative data, products, and services; vi) to provide innovative datamanagement, simulation, and visualisation techniques at the interface with HPC facilities.\r\nThe strategic aim of the GeoINQUIRE project is to integrate the resources and capabilities of the major environmental European Research Infrastructures (RIs) consortia (ERIC), such as EPOSERIC, EMSOERIC, and ECSELERIC.\r\nThe GeoINQUIRE Sicily Summer School 2025 ‘Novel technologies and observing systems for geohazard and environmental monitoring: integrated approach of the Eastern Sicily test bed’ is one of the activities coordinated under the project’s Work Package 9 Fostering cross-disciplinary research of the Earth through training and workshops.\r\nThis summer school is centred on the Eastern Sicily Test Bed, a key component offered within the GeoINQUIRE project framework. The Eastern Sicily test bed includes facilities of the Etna Volcano Observatory (Etna VO), part of EPOS RI, and the Western Ionian Sea (WIS), part of EMSO RI.\r\nThe motivation of such a concentration of RIs in Eastern Sicily stems from the unique feature of the area in being a natural laboratory for observing, monitoring and studying landand seafloorborn geological and environmental processes. In fact, Mt. Etna volcano is the largest southernmost volcano in Europe and one of the world’s most intensively monitored volcanoes, and the scientists have the opportunity to collect a wide spectrum of volcanological, geophysical and geochemical data related to the continuous activity. Similarly, western Ionian basin is a key site for investigating water exchanges between the eastern and western Mediterranean , trophic chain and migratory routes of oceanic fauna and in particular cetaceans.\r\nThe INGV multiparametric volcano monitoring system at Mt. Etna is designed to continuously collect data that characterize the ongoing volcanic processes. This work is inherently multidisciplinary, requiring the deployment of sensor networks to measure essential physical and chemical parameters (e.g., seismicity, ground deformation, gravity/magnetic field variations, and volcanic gas flux from the ground or plumes). Additionally, the system relies on regular field surveys. Most of the data, products, and facilities resulting from this monitoring activity are made virtually, physically or remotely accessible through the EPOS platform.\r\nEMSO WIS facility consists of seafloor multisensor platforms (Calipso and Dione) placed at about 25 km from shore, at a depth of about 2000 m, and cabled to shore by means of an electrooptical cable for supplying the platforms with power and transmitting data in realtime. A standalone oceanographic mooring deployed nearby the platforms complements the suite of data of the seafloor observatories. The data acquired by WIS provide scientists with oceanographic, geophysical and environmental data timeseries accessible through the EMSO Data Portal. WIS is accessible according to the Transnational Access and RI Physical Access schemes, is jointly operated by INGV, INFN and CNR and shares assets with the KM3NeT.\r\nThe KM3NeT underwater neutrino telescope is aimed at observing high energy neutrinos. KM3NeT utilizes the waterCherenkov technique to reconstruct neutrino originated events in seawater. The telescope consists of two detectors located offshore Toulon, France, at 2500 m water depth (ORCA, Oscillation Research with Cosmics in the Abyss) and at 90 km SouthEast offshore Capo Passero, Italy, at about 3500 m water depth (ARCA, Astronomy Research with Cosmics in the Abyss).\r\nARCA is connected to shore through a network of electrooptical cables providing power and data connection from/to the telescope. ARCA is a 3D matrix of a few hundred thousand of 3inches Photomultiplier Tubes (PMTs) . In its full configuration ARCA will cover a volume of 1km3 in water. Currently, about a quarter of the system is in operation. Despite that, in February 13th 2023 ARCA detected the highest energy muon neutrino event ever recorded, with an energy exceeding 1017 eV, opening a new window into the extreme phenomena of the Universe.\r\nIn complementarity with the activities of KM3NeT, another cabled infrastructure is in operation in the Gulf of Catania, jointly operated by INGV and INFN. The subsea site is connected to shore through a 28kmlong electrooptical fibercable reaching a depth of 2100 meters. It supports several devices, including a Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (BOTDR) unit and a DAS system operated by the Centro Siciliano di Fisica Nucleare e Struttura della Materia (CSFNSM) .\r\nThe GeoINQUIRE Sicily Summer School focuses on new technologies used in Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciencesand Oceanic studies. In particular, the theory and the practical use of fibre optic sensing addressing strain changes on a wide spectrum is presented, together with some cutting edge techniques applied to volcanology and environmental studies. Cross fertilization sessions between the Solid Earth Sciences and Marine Science are part of the school’s program.\r\nThe school is organized in three main training modules (Figure 1).\r\nModule 1: Fiber Optic Sensing\r\nModule 2: Sensors and Observation systems for environmental monitoring\r\nModule 3: RIs Services and GeoINQUIRE project's objectives\r\nEach module consists of lectures and handson activities. The training modules are enriched with day field trips to visit the INFN KM3Net facility in Capo Passero and the INGV EPOS facilities at Mt. Etna. This latter trip wll give trainees the opportunity the get closer to the most amazing volcanic features. The school also offers to the trainees the opportunity to present their own research results during the poster sessions and to have informal scientific discussions with the teachers in the Pint of Science session.\r\nThe school is hosted in Malavoglia hotel in Aci Castello (Catania, Italy) from 16th to 23nd October 2025. The forty trainees come from universities and research institutions based in nineteen different countries (Austria, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Türkiye, United Kingdom, and United States), representing 22 different nationalities (Albanian, British, Chinese, Colombian, Croatian, Danish, Egyptian, Eritrean, Filipino, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Iranian, Irish, Italian, Kenyan, Moroccan, Portugal, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish). They were selected over more than one hundred applicants from sixtysix different countries that applied to the call opened in March 2025. The trainees submitted extended abstracts of their ongoing research that are included in this volume. Overall, the studies are at top level for the quality of the data and the originality of the methods adopted for the analysis . It is worth to note that most of the studies are multidisciplinary embracing geophysical, geochemical, geological or environmental processes.\r\nMost of the abstracts deal with the application of DAS to characterize seismicity in specific environments or the development of new algorithms for efficient DAS data analysis either in urban or seismic areas.\r\nOther abstracts report results of seismological studies based on advanced analysis of conventional seismological signals. Research on ground deformation or strain in seismic and volcanic areas are also reported, as well as studies on geohazard assessment or marine geology.\r\nThe volume also includes the Mt. Etna field trip guide.\r\nThis guide provides an overview of the volcano's main volcanological characteristics and details the stops where specific examples of volcanological features and nodes of the multidisciplinary monitoring system. are For this reason, in 2019, the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) adopted a protocol for managing seismic and tsunami emergencies. During the “EXE SISMA dello Stretto 2022” exercise, organized and coordinated by the Civil Protection Department (DPC), INGV tested these protocols in a simulated event in the Strait of Messina, focusing particularly on evaluating the activities carried out by the Crisis Unit Secretariat and the Emergency Operations Group “Coordinamento Operativo Emergenza Sismica” (COES). Additionally, tools developed for sharing multidisciplinary data collected by the institute and for drafting and disseminating scientific reports critical to crisis management were tested. Earthquakes, therefore, represent a very important risk both for homes that - due to their architectural history and construction techniques - are fragile and for the social communities and local economies that are overwhelmed by the consequences.\r\n‘Fragile Home’ represents a house, on several levels, exposed to the shaking of a seismic tremor. It represents the typical rooms of a traditional house as they appear ‘before’ an earthquake and ‘after’ the damage caused by the seismic event. This year marks a significant milestone as the report is officially integrated into the INGV Miscellanea series, a transition aimed at enhancing the visibility and formal dissemination of the laboratories’ progress within the broader scientific community.\r\nThe HPHT Lab stands as a facility of excellence and an international benchmark for the experimental study of the physico-chemical processes governing Earth’s dynamics. Serving as a cross-departmental hub, the laboratories actively support INGV’s Earthquake, Volcano, and Environment departments. By integrating high pressure/high temperature simulations, advanced petrological analyses, and multi-parametric field monitoring, the research group effectively bridges the gap between natural observations and the theoretical understanding of volcanic and seismic phenomena.\r\nThe LNTS lab integrates expertise in the fields of electronics and mechanics, and employs infrastructure resources such as an electronics laboratory, a mechanical workshop and equipment for systems development. The laboratory develops mechanical and electronic technologies for the design of new electronic and mechatronic systems, prototypes equipment, and sensors for geoscience research. The LNTS carries out activities related to the development and integration of payloads aboard stratospheric platforms, for scientific activities in polar regions, and of UAVs. It is characterized by its strongly multidisciplinary nature; this inherent interdisciplinary ensures that its technological development activities effectively support the experimental research connected to all three departments of the INGV (Earthquake, Volcano, Environment). The laboratory is also part of the COS (Center for Space Observation), providing its expertise for technological development in the space sector to support Earth Observation from space. In 2025, the research framework expanded to include 21 funded projects, underscoring the laboratories’ competitive edge in securing high-level funding. A primary highlight of 2025 is the start of two prestigious ERC Starting Grants awarded to academic personnel, where the HPHT Lab serves as a key secondary beneficiary: FORESEEING (FrOm RupturE to Earthquake Early warING, P.I. S. Colombelli) and OMEN (Observing the Mechanisms of Earthquake Nucleation, P.I. G. Pozzi). Chapter 1 outlines this infrastructural framework, highlighting the growth of the network through these ERC grants, alongside major European projects (e.g., EXCITE2) and national PNRR initiatives (e.g., MEET-ILGE). These collaborations consolidate the laboratories’ role as a primary node for trans-national scientific exchange and a dedicated hub for the development of new generations of researchers.\r\nThe extensive scientific output, amounting to 32 publications in high-impact journals and numerous contributions to major international conferences (EGU, IAVCEI, Goldschmidt), reflects a constant commitment to advancing research on key topics, from the dynamics of active volcanoes to the mechanics of the seismic cycle. This year marks a significant milestone as the report is officially integrated into the INGV Miscellanea series, a transition aimed at enhancing the visibility and formal dissemination of the laboratories’ progress within the broader scientific community.\r\nThe HPHT Lab stands as a facility of excellence and an international benchmark for the experimental study of the physico-chemical processes governing Earth’s dynamics. Serving as a cross-departmental hub, the laboratories actively support INGV’s Earthquake, Volcano, and Environment departments. By integrating high pressure/high temperature simulations, advanced petrological analyses, and multi-parametric field monitoring, the research group effectively bridges the gap between natural observations and the theoretical understanding of volcanic and seismic phenomena.\r\nThe LNTS lab integrates expertise in the fields of electronics and mechanics, and employs infrastructure resources such as an electronics laboratory, a mechanical workshop and equipment for systems development. The laboratory develops mechanical and electronic technologies for the design of new electronic and mechatronic systems, prototypes equipment, and sensors for geoscience research. The LNTS carries out activities related to the development and integration of payloads aboard stratospheric platforms, for scientific activities in polar regions, and of UAVs. It is characterized by its strongly multidisciplinary nature; this inherent interdisciplinary ensures that its technological development activities effectively support the experimental research connected to all three departments of the INGV (Earthquake, Volcano, Environment). The laboratory is also part of the COS (Center for Space Observation), providing its expertise for technological development in the space sector to support Earth Observation from space. In 2025, the research framework expanded to include 21 funded projects, underscoring the laboratories’ competitive edge in securing high-level funding. A primary highlight of 2025 is the start of two prestigious ERC Starting Grants awarded to academic personnel, where the HPHT Lab serves as a key secondary beneficiary: FORESEEING (FrOm RupturE to Earthquake Early warING, P.I. S. Colombelli) and OMEN (Observing the Mechanisms of Earthquake Nucleation, P.I. G. Pozzi). Chapter 1 outlines this infrastructural framework, highlighting the growth of the network through these ERC grants, alongside major European projects (e.g., EXCITE2) and national PNRR initiatives (e.g., MEET-ILGE). These collaborations consolidate the laboratories’ role as a primary node for trans-national scientific exchange and a dedicated hub for the development of new generations of researchers.\r\nThe extensive scientific output, amounting to 32 publications in high-impact journals and numerous contributions to major international conferences (EGU, IAVCEI, Goldschmidt), reflects a constant commitment to advancing research on key topics, from the dynamics of active volcanoes to the mechanics of the seismic cycle. Chapter 2 provides a technical breakdown of these results, offering a solid foundation of data and interpretations essential for hazard assessment and the mitigation of natural risks.\r\nSpecial derived from two public databases: the DISS database (https://diss.ingv.it/), that is a geospatial repository that includes seismogenic sources, i.e. major active faults deemed to generate damaging earthquakes and as such used for assessing earthquake hazards, and the ITHACA database (https://sgi.isprambiente.it/ithacaweb/default.aspx#1) that collects available information on active and capable faults affecting the Italian territory, based on a critical review of the available literature.\r\nIn order to estimate the probability that a capable fault from the ITHACA database produces surface ruptures following earthquakes generated by the seismogenic sources of the DISS database, the elements of the two datasets are integrated into a system of principal and distributed faulting, a framework commonly adopted in coseismic surface faulting hazard studies. Specifically, the upper tip of the CSS seismogenic sources of DISS are treated as principal faults along which primary faulting occurs. Conversely, the capable faults from the ITHACA database are assimilated into distributed faulting phenomena that develop in association with primary faulting.\r\nThe selection of models for estimating the conditional probability of distributed faulting occurrence was guided by: (i) their compatibility with the methodological approach developed for the DISS–ITHACA interoperability; (ii) the updated status of the reference databases adopted; and (iii) the consistency of each model’s applicability range with the Italian seismotectonic setting. Another fundamental aspect is the right to secondary publication, that is, the ability of the author to republish their article in an open access archive. The Italian regulatory framework does not provide for this right, although it is recognized in some European countries.\r\nThe “Italian Collective Initiative to Support the Free Sharing and Dissemination of Science,” launched in 2024, represents a significant contribution to strengthening the debate on scientific communication rights in Italy.\r\nColleagues from the National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), involved in the issue of strengthening research, security illustrate the organizational phases of the inter- ministerial committee, coordinated by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), which in 2025 produced guidelines for the integrity and security of research and a national model implementing the European Recommendation of 23 May 2024 (C/2024/3510). This includes a National Coordination Center for Research Security and Integrity, staffed by representatives from research institutions and universities. The entire process outlined in the guidelines identifies those responsible for research and innovation projects as the individuals responsible for assessing risks for the launch of new research activities and projects for which they are responsible. In the area of open data, a security “S” is proposed for the FAIR principles, according to which the principle of “as open as possible, as closed as necessary” will be balanced with superior security and confidentiality requirements; this will impact the effectiveness of the processes of openness, exchange, and reuse.\r\nIn this framework, freedom of research remains a fundamental principle.\r\nDuring 2025, the National Research Council (CNR), the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS), and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) have published their respective Action Plans, which were presented this morning.\r\nThese institutions have joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (COARA) and are committed to the research evaluation reform process.\r\nThe National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) is currently working on its Action Plan for the Reform of Research Evaluation, while ISPRA has adhered to the principles of the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment (ARRA).\r\nThe CNR Action Plan incorporates the principles of the European Agreement and recognizes the diversity of research contributions—such as publications, patents, technology transfer, and third mission, as well as tangible and intangible assets—by proposing new evaluation templates for different types of products. It also promotes the quality of research and responsible peer review. It does not rely on institutional rankings for evaluation purposes and devotes significant attention to the training of research staff and selection committees. Following the coordination of the Italian National Chapter, the CNR will continue to foster the exchange of practices and experiences with other institutions.\r\nThe OGS Action Plan calls for the establishment of a Working Group composed of researchers, infrastructure technologists, and administrative staff, with the aim of initiating a reform process and strengthening quality, transparency, and inclusion, as well as enhancing scientific and professional contributions. The principles adopted include training for responsible evaluation, the promotion of open science, and the use of suitable digital tools to make research career evaluation processes traceable and transparent.\r\nThe INGV Action Plan, published in September 2025, highlights the importance of evaluating multiple research products in an institution where the geophysical monitoring service mission is integrated with scientific activity in the geosciences. Particular attention is paid to sharing the reform steps with all staff, to ensure a participatory and fully understood process.\r\nRegarding technological resource evaluation, our colleague Carlo Cipolloni from ISPRA presents the GEOSFAIR interface. This open-source application, designed for metadata, data, and software validation, is easy to use and compliant with standards, allowing for testing of these resources. GeoSFAIR allows you to choose the testing criteria for assigning a FAIRness level to each product. In the afternoon, open access publishing, software licenses and open data have been the subject of reflection and discussion.\r\nDonatella Castelli’s contribution from the CNR/ISTI in Pisa focuses on the second phase of development of the 2021 Open Research Europe platform. This European initiative involved the open access publication of the results of projects funded by the Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, and EU Framework Programmes.\r\nThe ORE-2 project action is led by the European Commission, in collaboration with European bodies and institutions, and provides researchers with a platform based on the “publish, review, curate” model, ensuring greater flexibility, reliability, and sustainability. The ORE-2 implementation plan is also presented.\r\nThe ORE-2 platform proposal aims to offer a valid alternative to the Open Access models proposed by publishers through transformative contracts, which are often very costly for libraries of Universities and Public Research Institutions. The INGV presents the use of vouchers from Elsevier, Wiley, and Springer at the INGV for the period 2020-2025, demonstrating how only in the last two years has the portion of contractual expenses dedicated to open access publishing been fully utilized. Colleagues at the CNAF INFN present the license chosen for the release of INFN software: the European Union Public License (EUPL), a reciprocal license issued in all EU languages by the European Commission and compatible with EU and member state law. It is also important to have an open source software policy consistent with that of other EPRs. Questo testo nasce dalla volontà di sistematizzare e condividere le riflessioni emerse durante l’incontro del 20 novembre 2025.\r\nObiettivo dell’incontro è stato quello di presentare le azioni intraprese in settori di particolare rilevanza, quali il diritto d’autore nella comunicazione scientifica e l’accesso alla conoscenza, l’impatto della sicurezza sulla scienza aperta e lo stato dell’arte degli Action Plan di riforma della valutazione negli Enti di ricerca che hanno aderito a COARA (coara.org).\r\nUno dei primi interventi, curato da colleghi del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – Istituto di Informatica e Telematica (CNR-IGSG) di Pisa, analizza l’importanza della formazione dei ricercatori per creare una maggiore consapevolezza dei loro diritti. È necessario, infatti, informarli e supportarli nella gestione dei contratti di edizione affinché non trasferiscano in esclusiva i diritti patrimoniali all’editore. Altro aspetto fondamentale è il diritto alla pubblicazione secondaria, ossia la possibilità per l’autore di ripubblicare il proprio articolo in un archivio ad accesso aperto. Il quadro normativo italiano non prevede tale diritto, riconosciuto invece in alcuni Stati Europei. L’“Iniziativa collettiva italiana a sostegno della libera condivisione e diffusione della scienza” avviata nel 2024, rappresenta un contributo significativo al rafforzamento del dibattito sui diritti della comunicazione scientifica in Italia.\r\nI colleghi dell’Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA), coinvolti nel problema del rafforzamento della sicurezza della ricerca, illustrano le fasi organizzative del tavolo interministeriale, coordinato dal Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca (MUR) che nel 2025 ha prodotto delle linee guida per l’integrità e la sicurezza della ricerca ed un modello nazionale in attuazione della Raccomandazione Europea del 23 maggio 2024 (C/2024/3510).\r\nÈ stato istituito un Centro di coordinamento nazionale che prevede un Centro di coordinamento nazionale per la sicurezza e l’integrità della ricerca, formato dai referenti degli Enti di Ricerca e Università. L’intero processo delineato dalle linee guida individua nei responsabili dei progetti di ricerca e di innovazione i soggetti imputati alla valutazione dei rischi per l’avvio di nuove attività e progetti di ricerca di cui sono responsabili. Nel settore dei dati aperti si prospetta l’introduzione di una “S” di sicurezza ai principi FAIR, secondo cui il principio “più aperto possibile, chiuso il tanto necessario” sarà bilanciato da esigenze superiori di sicurezza e riservatezza; ciò inciderà sull’efficacia dei processi di apertura, scambio e riuso.\r\nIn questo quadro la libertà di ricerca resta un principio fondamentale.\r\nNel corso del 2025 Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale (OGS) e Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) hanno pubblicato i rispettivi Action Plan, presentati nel corso della mattinata.\r\nTali Enti che hanno aderito alla Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (COARA) impegnandosi nel processo di riforma della valutazione della ricerca.\r\nL’Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) è attualmente al lavoro sul proprio Piano di Azione di Riforma della Valutazione della Ricerca, mentre l’ISPRA ha aderito ai principi dell’Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment (ARRA).\r\nL’Action Plan del CNR recepisce i principi dell’Agreement europeo e riconosce la pluralità dei contributi della ricerca - quali pubblicazioni, brevetti, trasferimento tecnologico e terza missione, nonché beni tangibili e non tangibili - proponendo nuovi template di valutazione per diverse tipologie di prodotti. Promuove inoltre la qualità della ricerca e della peer review responsabile. Non prevede il ricorso ai ranking istituzionali ai fini valutativi e dedica ampio spazio alla formazione del personale di ricerca e delle commissioni di concorso. Dopo il coordinamento del Capitolo Nazionale Italia, il CNR continuerà a favorire lo scambio di pratiche ed esperienze con altre istituzioni. L’Action Plan dell’OGS prevede l’istituzione di un Gruppo di Lavoro composto da ricercatori, tecnologi delle infrastrutture e personale amministrativo, con l’obiettivo di avviare un percorso di riforma e rafforzare qualità, trasparenza e inclusione, nonché la valorizzazione dei contributi scientifici e professionali. Tra i principi adottati figurano la formazione per una valutazione responsabile, la promozione della scienza aperta e l’utilizzo di strumenti digitali idonei a rendere tracciabili e trasparenti i processi di valutazione delle carriere nella ricerca.\r\nL’Action Plan dell’INGV, pubblicato nel settembre 2025, evidenzia l’importanza della valutazione di molteplici prodotti della ricerca in un Ente in cui la missione di servizio di monitoraggio geofisico si integra con l’attività scientifica nell’ambito delle geoscienze. Particolare attenzione è dedicata alla condivisione dei passaggi della riforma con tutto il personale, al fine di rendere il percorso partecipato e pienamente e compreso. Per gli aspetti di valutazione delle risorse tecnologiche il collega Carlo Cipolloni dell’ISPRA presenta l’interfaccia GEOSFAIR. L’applicazione open source, nata per la validazione dei metadati, dei dati, dei softaware è di facile utilizzo e coerente con gli standard permettendo di testare le suddette risorse. GeoSFAIR consente di scegliere i criteri di test per l’attribuzione del livello di FAIRness per ogni prodotto.\r\nNel pomeriggio l’editoria open access, le licenze per i software e i dati aperti sono oggetto di riflessione e discussione.\r\nIl contributo di Donatella Castelli del CNR/ISTI di Pisa è incentrato sulla seconda fase di sviluppo della piattaforma Open Research Europe del 2021. L’iniziativa europea prevedeva la pubblicazione ad accesso aperto dei risultati dei progetti finanziati dai programmi Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe e dagli EU Framework Programmes.\r\nL’azione del progetto ORE-2 è guidata dalla Commissione Europea, in collaborazione con enti e istituzioni europee, e mette a disposizione dei ricercatori una piattaforma basata sul modello “publish, review, curate” assicurando maggiore flessibilità, affidabilità e sostenibilità. Viene inoltre presentato il piano di realizzazione di ORE-2. La proposta della piattaforma ORE-2 mira ad offrire una valida alternativa ai modelli di Open Access proposti dagli editori attraverso contratti trasformativi, spesso molto onerosi per le biblioteche degli Enti Pubblici di Ricerca (EPR). L’INGV presenta l’utilizzo dei voucher di Elsevier, Wiley e Springer all’INGV nel periodo 2020- 2025 mostrando come solo negli ultimi due anni si arriva al pieno utilizzo della parte delle spese contrattuali dedicate alla pubblicazione ad accesso aperto.\r\nI colleghi del CNAF INFN presentano il tipo di licenza scelta per il rilascio dei software INFN: la European Union Public License (EUPL), di tipo reciprocal, prodotta in tutte le lingue dell’Unione dalla Commissione Europea e compatibile con il diritto comunitario e dei paesi membri. Importante poi dotarsi di una policy sui software open source che sia omogenea a quella degli altri EPR. attributed to the Monti Prenestini (Latium region) area and quoted in the Parametric Catalogue of Italian Earthquakes (CPTI15). Although the event is described with notable parameters (Mw 5.1 and MCS intensity 7), its documentation is remarkably incomplete. Extensive bibliographic and archival research, drawing on contemporary sources and consultation of local newspapers of the time, has systematically failed to identify any account of the alleged earthquake. We believe that the origin of this seismic event is most likely due to a printing error that originally appeared in the Bulletin of Italian Volcanism in March 1883. This anomaly was then transmitted and reproduced in subsequent catalogs and literature without any verification or corrective amendment to date. We conclude that the seismic event of March 16, 1883, never actually occurred. Una ricerca bibliografica e d’archivio dettagliata, condotta attraverso fonti coeve e la consultazione di quotidiani locali dell’epoca, ha sistematicamente escluso qualsiasi riferimento al terremoto in questione. Riteniamo che l’esistenza di questo evento sismico sia da ricondurre a un probabile errore di stampa originariamente comparso nel Bullettino del Vulcanismo Italiano del marzo 1883. Tale anomalia è stata presumibilmente tramandata e riprodotta nei cataloghi e nella letteratura successivi senza alcuna verifica o emendamento correttivo fino ad oggi. La conclusione è che l’evento sismico del 16 marzo 1883 non sia mai avvenuto.
