The data\nwere used to provide support for an alternative ('brain-based') theoretical\nframework of brain function. Indeed, cell assemblies have generally been\nstudied in relation to specific stimuli or actions ('representational'\nframework), but this approach does not readily extend to more abstract\nconstructs. The brain-based approach proposes to assess cell assemblies\nwithout making reference to external variables, and instead focus on internal\nbrain processes — by defining assemblies by their endogenous ability to\neffectively elicit specific responses in downstream (‘reader’) neurons. This\ndata set and the accompanying manuscript support cell assemblies as an\nendogenous mechanism for brain function.","descriptionType":"Abstract"}],"geoLocations":[],"fundingReferences":[],"url":"https://crcns.org/data-sets/pfc/pfc-9","contentUrl":null,"metadataVersion":0,"schemaVersion":"http://datacite.org/schema/kernel-4","source":"mds","isActive":true,"state":"findable","reason":null,"viewCount":0,"downloadCount":0,"referenceCount":0,"citationCount":0,"partCount":0,"partOfCount":0,"versionCount":0,"versionOfCount":0,"created":"2025-10-10T20:53:59Z","registered":"2025-10-10T20:54:00Z","published":null,"updated":"2025-10-10T22:58:02Z"},"relationships":{"client":{"data":{"id":"cdl.ucb","type":"clients"}}}},{"id":"10.6080/k0rn35sv","type":"dois","attributes":{"doi":"10.6080/k0rn35sv","identifiers":[],"creators":[{"name":"Dan, Yang","nameType":"Personal","givenName":"Yang","familyName":"Dan","affiliation":[],"nameIdentifiers":[]},{"name":"Felsen, Gidon","nameType":"Personal","givenName":"Gidon","familyName":"Felsen","affiliation":[],"nameIdentifiers":[]},{"name":"Touryan, Jon","nameType":"Personal","givenName":"Jon","familyName":"Touryan","affiliation":[],"nameIdentifiers":[]}],"titles":[{"title":"Extracellular recording from cells in cat primary visual cortex"},{"title":"CRCNS.org pvc-2","titleType":"AlternativeTitle"}],"publisher":"CRCNS.org","container":{},"publicationYear":2009,"subjects":[{"subject":"Electrophysiology"},{"subject":"Extracellular recordings"},{"subject":"Cat"}],"contributors":[],"dates":[{"date":"2009","dateType":"Issued"}],"language":"en","types":{"ris":"DATA","bibtex":"misc","citeproc":"dataset","schemaOrg":"Dataset","resourceType":"Dataset/Neurophysiology","resourceTypeGeneral":"Dataset"},"relatedIdentifiers":[],"relatedItems":[],"sizes":["95 MB"],"formats":["application/matlab"],"version":"1.0","rightsList":[],"descriptions":[{"description":"These experiments were performed to measure the spatiotemporal receptive fields \n of cortical cells.
