The Elsevier Share Link provides temporary free access to the final published article.\n\nRUBIN-RCA is a preliminary alpha release of an open-source diagnostic framework for post-pipeline residual-covariance analysis in Rubin/LSST-style tabular products.\n\nThe project is released as open-source software to support reproducible, inspectable, and reusable diagnostic workflows. It converts local Rubin/LSST-style products into sample-by-feature matrices, computes residual correlations, estimates effective independent evidence (N_eff), runs empirical null tests, and generates diagnostic reports, visual figures, and machine-readable summaries.\n\nRUBIN-RCA exposes a unified command-line interface for the full diagnostic workflow, including product-specific matrix builders, residual computation, correlation diagnostics, N_eff estimation, empirical null tests, advisor summaries, visual report generation, and run-to-run comparison reports.\n\nRUBIN-RCA extends the RCA diagnostic philosophy previously developed in JWST-RCA: a post-pipeline residual-covariance advisor that produces diagnostic evidence rather than scientific verdicts. Whereas JWST-RCA was designed for spectroscopic products from JWST instruments, RUBIN-RCA adapts the same general approach to Rubin/LSST-style tabular products such as catalogs, light curves, sky patches, coadds, and alert-like tables.\n\nThis release is also intended as one component of a broader RCA diagnostic ecosystem under development. The broader aim is to develop a multi-survey RCA diagnostic ecosystem spanning JWST, Rubin/LSST, SDSS/BOSS, and Euclid. The purpose is not to replace any official pipeline, but to provide a common post-pipeline diagnostic layer for comparing residual-covariance structure, effective independent evidence, empirical null-test behavior, and machine-readable diagnostic summaries across different astronomical instruments, surveys, and data-product families.\n\nThis alpha release is validated on local TEST products and includes a DP1 TAP preview path that generates the intended ADQL query and manifest without executing live TAP access. It has not yet been validated on real Rubin DP1 data.\n\nRUBIN-RCA is not an official Rubin/LSST pipeline component and does not replace Rubin Science Pipelines. In it, behavior is a position in a state space; an attractor is the configuration in which the system is energetically and cognitively cheapest to maintain; inertia is the restoring force back to that configuration; and the set of options a person can even conceive and choose is produced by a generator G from the current state, forming the option space Ω(Sₜ). The framework departs from holistic attractor models in three ways: the state is decomposed into layers, each with its own inertia and return regime; an explicit generator G is introduced, with output Ω; and the depth of an intervention is typed separately from its content (levels 1-5). It also adds cross-layer coupling between attractors and an energy gate E(Sₜ), which specifies the condition under which no stable transition is available until the prevailing constraints themselves change.The aim of the paper is to set out the conceptual apparatus of the framework, show its relation to existing attractor models, formulate the falsifiable predictions that follow from it, and draw an explicit line between what is already supported in the literature and what ToV posits and leaves to empirical test.
