In this report, first the review of the literature provides a background for studies of occupational injuries in the commercial fishing industry. Then, the status of occupational injuries and fatalities in commercial fishery is explained. Next, historical data on the number of accidents in the commercial fishery in the GOM are presented followed by the construction of the full-time equivalent (FTE) employment for selected groups of fisheries. Based on these data, the historical rates of fatal injuries are calculated.Concluding remarks end this technical memorandum. (Introduction)
