Low-cost laser cut Silastic implants for type I thyroplasty in a rabbit model

Research
in type I thyroplasty requires a method of mass-producing implants of a precise
size and shape made from medical-grade, bio-tolerable materials commonly used
in type I thyroplasty. We developed a process for laser-cutting large numbers
of standardized implants that can be tailored to research specifications at the
micrometer scale at a fraction of the cost of commercially available implants.
