The aim of the project was to compare various techniques for the assessment of remaining life for power plant components. In this context, creep tests were performed on three grades of low Cr steel, namely 1Cr0.5Mo (DIN 13CrMo 4 4), 0.5Cr0.5Mo0.25V (DIN 14MoV 6 3), and 2.25Cr1Mo (DIN 10CrMo 9 10). The creep tests were designed to provide a series of test pieces with defined creep strains ranging from 0.2 to 5 % for creep damage assessment. In addition, basic rupture data were determined for the steels in the new and service exposed conditions. Several creep laboratories participated in the test programme. At FZ Jülich the materials tested were new and service exposed 1Cr0.5Mo, new 0.5Cr0.5Mo0.25V and new 2.25Cr1Mo steels. The 1Cr0.5Mo service exposed specimens were taken from a pipe that had been in service at 525 oC for 250 000 h at 110 bar, and the 0.5Cr0.5Mo0.25V from a forging after 116 000 h service exposure at 530 °C, 176 bar. The creep data set contains test results determined at 530, 550, 600 and 625 °C and the longest test times were 26000 h for 1Cr0.5Mo service exposed, 14000 h for 1Cr0.5Mo new and 24000 h for new 0.5Cr0.5Mo0.25V.
