The number of PV plant installations in Italy is quickly increasing, mainly due to the large participation
to the national “Conto Energia” Programme. As it is foreseen in the related governmental decree, a detailed
monitoring of selected PV plants, installed in the frame of the Programme, has been started. A group of PV plants
owned by public users has been selected and an accurate data acquisition system has been installed in each plant by
RSE (formerly ERSE), on behalf of GSE and ENEA. The collection of operational data of these PV plants are
currently performed and their analysis is periodically made available on a website. The results of this analysis can be
used to supply information of PV performance and reliability to governmental institutions and PV system operators.
Information are also usable by PV operators (designers, architects, investors, insurance agents, ...), which are
interested in the evaluation of their-own technical and economic involvement in this technology, and by electric grid
managers, that are demanding for the quality, over the years, of PV plants operating in connection to the grid.
