CdTe solar cell technology uses a thin film photovoltaic device, which has become increasingly cost competitive, with the potential to reduce the use of fossil fuels with a favorable balance of cost and efficiency. Atom probe tomography lets us use a local electrode atom probe and laser-induced field evaporation to discover the chemical composition measurements at the atomic scale and with 3D imaging and analysis. Future work could entail performing additional APT trials with variations in composition to determine effect on properties and increase energy conversion.
