Protanilla beijingensis sp. nov. from Beijing, China, is described. The distribution of the new Protanilla species is further north than that of any other species in the genus. This also represents the first record of a Leptanillinae species from Palaearctic China. By means of a subterranean pitfall trap (between 30 and 55 cm below ground), we made a collection of three workers and one queen of P. beijingensis sp. nov. and 106 individuals of Leptanilla taiwanensis Ogata, Terayama et Masuko, 1995 in Beijing. The depth of Leptanillinae distribution in Beijing and collection method is discussed. An updated key to the known species of Protanilla based on worker and queen castes is presented.
