Water column data collected from moorings in Monterey Canyon, offshore California
These water column data files were collected in Monterey Canyon as part of the Monterey Canyon Coordinated Canyon Experiment (CCE). The CCE was set up to measure the passage of sediment gravity flows down Monterey Canyon. A dense array of sensors (more than 50) were deployed for three consecutive six-month periods from October 2015 to April 2017 in Monterey Canyon between 280 and 1850 m water depth. Instruments were mounted on moorings between 10 and 300 m above the seafloor. The data files are in netCDF format and include the following types of data: Optical and acoustic backscatter, transmissivity, conductivity, temperature, pressure, salinity, wave height and current velocity, fluorescence, dissolved oxygen, and altimetry. File names begin with MBCCE, then mooring name, followed by an abbreviation for the sensor, and then the deployment date (yyyymmdd). For more specific information about each data file, download the excel file "CCE Files and Stations" and review the "Science Report" under Documents. Funding for the project was provided by The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Natural Environment Research Council (NE/K011480/1), U.S. Geological Survey, Ocean University of China, and Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology.
