In this 2014 interview for Dr. Anne Murphy’s SSHRC-funded project “Transnational modern Punjabi literature and the pursuit of the secular,” Surjit Sajjan begins by tracing his village's influence on Punjabi literature as it is home to many prominent writers such as Surjit Pattar. Sajjan claims that it was in part his village that got him interested in Punjab literature. Moreover, Surjit Sajjan discusses at length about the importance of community and congregation as a basis for literary development. He claims that meetings were instrumental in creating attachments to Punjabi literature. Interview by then-Ph.D. student Ajay Bhardwaj. Funded by SSHRC Insight Development (430-2013-000121) and Insight (435-2017-0406) Grants.
