"description": "As data increasingly becomes more valuable across scholarly communication, many publishers are embracing the tectonic shift in the way research is consumed and disseminated. By including the underlying data to support the findings of an article, research becomes easier to understand, validate and reproduce. Publishers making the shift to include data alongside the publication significantly enhances author and reader experience and improves the quality of the final published content. However, data is very complicated; it comes in a variety of formats and sizes. The infrastructure needed to support this diversity can be costly and time consuming for publishers to build and support.
For several years, figshare have been working with a number of publishers to provide data services and support for their authors, readers and editorial teams through our viewer and portal products. figshare for publishers is now used by over 20 publishers, including Springer Nature, PLOS and ACS. The figshare viewer allows publishers to embed supplementary data into their articles and the figshare portal provides data discoverability to help drive traffic to articles, with no impact on publisher infrastructure.
