Sentinel-1D acquired the first post-event pass covering the inferred impoundment on 28 August 2026 at 12:21:54 UTC (18:07 Nepal time), after the reported breach. This version adds a terrain-corrected radar search of a 39 × 55 km envelope spanning the whole mapped upstream drainage (Lhende Khola, Chhochen Khola, Purepu Tsangpo, Chusumdo Tsangpo). No new open-water body larger than 1.5 ha exists anywhere in that envelope, and at the inferred barrier-lake marker and across both terrain-modelled pool footprints the surface is radiometrically unchanged from 16 August (−0.17 to −0.43 dB, 0.08–0.19σ), where a water surface as rough as −12 dB would have been detected at z = 14 to 24.\nProcessing is a full Range-Doppler terrain correction: satellite trajectory interpolated from the product orbit state vectors, zero-Doppler time solved per DEM cell, slant-to-ground range via the product srgr polynomial, σ0 from the product calibration LUT, and layover/shadow from exact radar geometry. The geocoding was validated against the product's own geolocation grid to a maximum error of 1.89 m over 210 points. The commercial VHR imagery underlying the EMS products is not redistributed here; only the openly licensed CEMS vector layers are included. Radar cannot see a sufficiently rough, turbulent or debris-covered water surface; 20.1% of the envelope is unusable for layover and shadow; the marker is an inferred location of medium confidence; and a lake beyond 28.60°N / 85.80°E was outside the search. The terrain-modelled pool polygons are retained unchanged and remain modelled scenarios — they are not contradicted, merely uncorroborated at the inferred location.
Impact and exposure atlas for the flash flood that swept the Bhote Koshi / Trishuli corridor of Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, Nepal, on 26 August 2026, triggered by a glacier collapse north of Langtang Lirung (USGS us7000tbwb, event-type landslide, Ms 5.2). Version 4 (28 August 2026) adds the first OBSERVED extent for this event. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping activation EMSR927 released grading products for AOI01 Syapru Besi and AOI02 Timure, photo-interpreted from WorldView-3 and Legion imagery acquired 27 August 2026 05:05 UTC: two observed-event polygons (111.078 ha and 125.875 ha), 864 graded buildings, 44 graded road segments and 6 graded bridges. EMS types the mapped surface as "6-Mass Movement / Landslide" - the scoured and debris-covered ground the flow left behind, not a standing water extent. v4 also ships the first independent validation of this atlas's height-above-channel envelope against those observed data: 92.8 percent of the 236.95 ha EMS observed event area, 96.8 percent of the 695 buildings graded Destroyed, all 6 bridges graded Destroyed and 96.3 percent of the 15.67 km of road graded Destroyed fall inside the 80 m band, against only 11.6 percent of the 3.87 km graded "No visible damage". The upstream barrier lake pool polygons added in v3 remain modelled, not observed - EMS did not map the impoundment, and no satellite pass over the lake has become available since the fully clouded Sentinel-2 acquisition of 27 August 05:10 UTC. The commercial VHR imagery underlying the EMS products is not redistributed here; only the openly licensed CEMS vector layers are included. Version 2 added the barrier lake point and the upstream drainage through Gyirong County and raised the glacier-collapse record to high location confidence. The exposure analysis - a Copernicus GLO-30 height-above-channel envelope at 10, 20, 40 and 80 m with WorldPop population by band, district and municipality, plus exposed settlements, road length, bridge crossings and hydropower assets - is unchanged since v1. Casualty counts are deliberately not carried in the data; they are reported on the dataset page with attribution and timestamps.</description>
