Results in the key domains of reading literacy, mathematical and scientific literacy, and problem solving allow conclusions to be drawn about strengths and areas for development in the education systems of participating countries. Since PISA is conducted every three years, the studies also provide important evidence on changes in educational quality over time.\nThe main focus of PISA 2003 was the assessment of mathematical competence.     <description xml:lang="de" descriptionType="Abstract">Das „Programme for International Student Assessment“ (PISA) untersucht, wie gut 15-jährige Schüler*innen auf die Anforderungen der Wissensgesellschaft und auf lebenslanges Lernen vorbereitet sind. Die Ergebnisse in den Schlüsselbereichen Lesekompetenz, mathematische und naturwissenschaftliche Grundbildung sowie Problemlösen ermöglichen Rückschlüsse auf Stärken und Entwicklungsbedarfe der Bildungssysteme in den teilnehmenden Ländern. Da PISA alle drei Jahre durchgeführt wird, liefern die Studien zudem wichtige Hinweise auf Veränderungen der Bildungsqualität im Zeitverlauf.
Der inhaltliche Schwerpunkt von PISA 2003 lag auf der Erfassung mathematischer Kompetenz. Ergänzend wurden Leistungen im Leseverständnis und in den Naturwissenschaften erhoben; außerdem wurden Aufgaben zum fächerübergreifenden Problemlösen eingesetzt.
International basiert PISA auf repräsentativen Stichproben von 15-jährigen Schüler*innen in den teilnehmenden Staaten. In Deutschland wurde PISA 2003 durch eine nationale Ergänzungsstichprobe (PISA-E) erweitert. Damit sind neben internationalen Vergleichen auch differenzierte Auswertungen auf Ebene der Bundesländer möglich.
Die Daten zu PISA 2003 setzen sich aus mehreren Teilstichproben zusammen. Die internationale Stichprobe (PISA-I) ist vollständig in der nationalen Ergänzungsstichprobe (PISA-E) enthalten. Darüber hinaus sind Teile von PISA-I in der Stichprobe PISA-I-Plus vertreten, die komplette neunte Klassen einbezieht. Diese Stichprobenstruktur sollte bei Analysen berücksichtigt werden.     <description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">The “Programme for International Student Assessment” (PISA) examines how well 15-year-old students are prepared for the demands of the knowledge society and for lifelong learning. Results in the key domains of reading literacy, mathematical and scientific literacy, and problem solving allow conclusions to be drawn about strengths and areas for development in the education systems of participating countries. Since PISA is conducted every three years, the studies also provide important evidence on changes in educational quality over time.
The main focus of PISA 2003 was the assessment of mathematical competence. In addition, achievement in reading comprehension and in science was measured; tasks on cross-curricular problem solving were also included.
Internationally, PISA is based on representative samples of 15-year-old students in the participating states. In Germany, PISA 2003 was extended by a national supplementary sample (PISA-E). This makes it possible to conduct differentiated analyses at the level of the federal states in addition to international comparisons.
The PISA 2003 data consist of several subsamples. The international sample (PISA-I) is fully included in the national supplementary sample (PISA-E). In addition, parts of PISA-I are included in the PISA-I-Plus sample, which comprises complete ninth-grade classes. This sampling structure should be taken into account in analyses.
