The samples are a part of the entire collection of macroalgae species included in the herbarium MBMP. The “Irma Pierpaoli herbarium” is owned by the Marine Biology Museum of Porto Cesareo (Lecce, Italy) related to the DiSTeBA department of Salento University and it was named after the botanist who collected the samples. It was registered in the Hindex Herbariorum site with the code MBMP in July 2024. At the CNR-IRSA in Taranto two herbaria are stored: the Herbarium of the Talassografico Institute “A. Cerruti” and the historical Herbarium “Irma Pierpaoli” dating back to the Twenties of the last century. Irma Pierpaoli, throughout her career as a school teacher, first in Taranto and then in Senigallia, devoted her free time to the study of seaweeds. During the years spent in Taranto, she was a guest of the Talassografico Institute, where she carried out her researches. We owe her the first studies on the benthic seaweeds of the Taranto seas.
